Breast Lift

What is a Breast Lift or Mastopexy?

Over time, the effects of aging, gravity, weight loss, pregnancy, nursing, and breast feeding cause a woman’s breasts and supporting skin to become loose and sag. A breast lift or mastopexy is a surgical procedure designed to reshape and reposition the breast and nipple to a more youthful position. Factors such as heavier breasts, thin tissue and also genetics may limit our ability to surgically position a woman’s breast and nipples to an ideal position. However, most patients notice a significant improvement in their breasts after this procedure.

There will be scars on the breast that are permanent because the surgery involves repositioning of the nipple and breast tissue. Over time most scars fade noticeably. Rarely, a patient may experience permanent nipple numbness.

The new look of the breasts may take time to settle because of swelling that occurs with all surgery. It must also be kept in mind that the breast lift won’t last forever, as the effects of gravity on our bodies will eventually take their toll. The majority of women are extremely happy with their results, and the cosmetic benefit outweighs these concerns.

Complications are rare – but must be thoroughly discussed and considered before you decide to have surgery.

Some women may consider having their breasts lifted after pregnancy, weight gain or loss, or due to aging and genetics. This can be performed both with and without implants. However you must be prepared to accept that your breasts may become “saggy” again with implants as the extra weight may accelerate this process.

This surgery involves more incisions and therefore more scars than a breast augmentation alone. At your consultation, Dr. Loutfy will take the time to perform a thorough examination and discuss the incisions that may be required for this surgery.
