Dr. Gorvetzian

Dr. Joseph Gorvetzian is Albuquerque born and raised, and now he has returned to provide his expertise in plastic and reconstructive surgery to the Albuquerque community.

Dr. Gorvetzian graduated from the Albuquerque Academy before obtaining his undergraduate degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Puget Sound, where he graduated cum laude. He returned home to complete his medical school education at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, where his academic and clinical acumen earned him election into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, Gold Humanism Honor Society, and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

Though he achieved honors in every clinical rotation, his passion was plastic surgery as demonstrated by his prolific number of locoregional presentations and numerous first-author publications on topics ranging from correction of tuberous breast deformity to cutting-edge antibiotic-bead-assisted complex wound reconstruction. 

Following his medical school graduation in 2019, Dr. Gorvetzian was accepted into the storied Grand Rapids Integrated Plastic Surgery residency program in Michigan, amongst the longest-running and most robust training programs in the country. There he had the privilege of training under over twenty full-time plastic surgeons including world famous breast reconstruction expert, Dr. Dennis Hammond. Dr. Gorvetzian distinguished himself in academic, clinical, and surgical pursuits. He was the recipient of the Farouck N. Obeid Clinical Trauma Award for his work in regenerative peripheral nerve interfaces for amputee patients. He was the only plastic surgery resident to be a finalist at the American College of Surgeons Region V Trauma competition. Dr. Gorvetzian also ran an exceptionally busy hospital-based chief clinic, where he performed procedures from filler injections to functional rhinoplasties, from thoracic wall reconstruction to microsurgical limb salvage with amongst the highest patient satisfaction scores in the system.

Dr. Gorvetzian’s comprehensive training and broad clinical exposure has produced a full-spectrum plastic surgeon. His particular interests include aesthetic breast surgery and breast reconstruction, body contouring, facial cosmetic surgery, and complex post-traumatic and post-oncologic reconstruction. He embodies compassion and understanding in his patient interactions and is uncompromising in his pursuit of surgical excellence.
